Leathr rear-ended

Leathr's missing fender after being hit by a cell phone driven SUV in a 30 mile per hour speed zone.

4-19-06 15:24 Garland & Washington
Spokane, Washington
West 400 block east bound..... struck by
distracted driver on a cell phone in a
Chevy Tahoe 1997 4 dr.

I stopped for a child who wanted to cross the busy street.

The gal in a Tahoe behind me did not stop and nailed the back of my motorcycle right in the license plate.
Because I was at a full stop, when she hit me, my feet came off the ground and my back went backward and hit the chrome seat rail, then I felt a full body whiplash of energy go up my back.
At that point, the bike became un-balanced and tipped over and I was lanched about 3 feet from the bike from the force of the hit. I layed on the ground right where and how I landed for about 5-7 minutes. Three police cruisers, fire department, parametics and ambulance showed up.....
a police cruiser parked in front of me to protect me as I lay on the ground.

The officer that parked in-front of me, told me later that his heart just sunk when he saw me laying there, he thought I was a gone-ner. Quite a crowd and witnesses ready to help and assist with keeping me medically sound. I didn't move at all until the firefighter stated that they were about to put me on a backboard.
I could move and feel my toes, fingers, and the rest of me. So, I rolled up off the street and with shacky legs. I had not hit my head on the street and knew that there were no broken bones.

With the bike leaking gas and the engine still running, the stereo speakers were still playing, someone kept asking me how to turn the bike off.
I didn't remember the engine cut out switch, but finally they found the key and got it turned off. It took 3 police officers to pick the bike up and push it over to the sidewalk.
Did the "stand around and wait thing" for the officers to complete paperwork.

My back was knocked against this seat rail and left quite a large bruise.

An airy new look for the 2001 Drifter backside.

My Progressive Insurance agent checks out the damage. Looks like Leathr will be repaired to the tune of $4000.00 plus and toss in the medical bills not tallied up yet.

It's against the law in Washington state to drive without automotive insurance.

I went to ER at 9 pm that evening and was released later at 2 in the morning.

A MRI on neck and x-rays taken of my back plus a physical examine and punching and pokeing for broken bones and sore spots. BUT, I could walk and move good.

She was sighted for second degree negligent driving and no insurance.

Until the police arrived,

she never got off that damn cell phone !!!
